Teaching methods

Teaching staff are sensitive to the fact that students undertake their academic studies in English which may be their second (or even third) language.

All of the academic subject modules are taught using a lecture/tutorial process that mirrors the style of teaching that students will encounter in University courses. Basic information will be delivered in lectures, while the student's understanding of the subject and their ability to utilise the information is supported by tutorial work and guided self-study.

Teaching methods will include lectures, seminar sessions, tutorials, group discussions, practical workshops, practical fieldwork, laboratory work, role-playing, student-led presentations, team-work and writing exercises. Varied assessment methods include essays, field and laboratory reports, creative writing, group and individual research projects, portfolios, bibliographical searches, presentations (individually or in small groups), subject quizzes, class tests, problem solving exercises and formal exams.
