Intensive academic preparation
The Diploma programme is as academically demanding as a traditional university first year course, so students are given all the support they need to ensure success – small working groups, personal attention, English language and study skills tuition.
Study skills
Essential preparation for university life – Study Skills provides support with group work, presentations, research methods, lecture note taking, essay design and planning and understanding methods of self evaluation.
English language support
English language is a core subject in the Diploma programme, with up to ten hours of lessons per week covering reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course ensures students reach the entry requirement for the second year of a degree. The intensive English language support enables international students to commence their university level study before they have formally met the stipulated entrance requirement for undergraduate programmes at the University. This, combined with flexible start dates helps ensure that students avoid delays or unnecessary extensions to their studies.
A typical INTO Diploma programme week
A typical week will have up to 24 hours of timetabled, university study including lectures, directed self-study, debating and role playing. Lessons may take the form of classes, workshops, tutorials. Students have plenty of opportunity to discuss informally with their tutors any points raised in lectures and seminars.
Students are able to work in the university library and use the network of over a thousand computer terminals for research, including online access to the library and the web, around the clock.
