Student Services team
The Student Services team, who are based at the Centre, will be the first point of contact for you and will help you with any non-academic issues, ranging from registering with a doctor through to setting up a bank account. The Student Services team are also responsible for the orientation programme, and the on-going social programme.
Guardianship
Any student under the age of 18 who is coming to study in the UK must have a UK-based guardian.
As part of INTO care, INTO will make and provide the following arrangements for students who are under 18 on the start date of their course. All students who are under 18 when they commence their INTO course must live in INTO residential accommodation or with a UK Guardian nominated by the parents.
INTO will provide a basic Guardianship servicefree of charge. This service includes:
• a nominated member of staff who will act as a Guardian for the student and act in loco parentis (on behalf of the parent) for the student in certain circumstances, for instance, any dealings the student may have with the police, or in the case of a medical emergency when the student might not be able to make the decision him/herself;
• 24 hour emergency phone number and assistance.
A full information pack regarding the above will be sent with your offer documents.
24-hour support
INTO is dedicated to ensuring that you feel totally safe and supported. Upon arrival all INTO students are issued with an emergency telephone number which can be used to ask for assistance from INTO staff at any time of the day or night.
Staff based on the accommodation site will make regular checks on flats and rooms, and are available to help stsudents with any issues that may arise.
Security staff are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Language advisers
At the INTO Centre, there are a number of language advisers, who speak a wide range of languages and are available to assist new and prospective students and parents, who may not be able to communicate effectively in English.
Support for students with disabilities
The Disability Service provides a confidential service giving advice and information for a range of disabilities including dyslexia, sensory impairments, mobility and medical conditions, enabling all students to have equal opportunities and access to their studies.
