Essential English

In the summer we offer short intensive Essential English courses of 20 hours per week, lasting either five or ten weeks. The courses are designed to improve general English proficiency in all skills, whether for personal interest, future academic study or to enhance career prospects.

• focus on fluency classes are designed to improve students’ spoken fluency and consist of a variety of communicative activities and tasks.

Course outcomes

• Enhanced level of accuracy and fluency in general English usage;

• progression onto further study of Academic English at INTO Scotland.

Social programme

A key feature of the course is the full social programme (at extra cost), which offers a series of organised events and activities to introduce students to the rich cultural life of Scotland and especially Glasgow. There is a team of social co-ordinators, many of them students from Caledonian University, whose job it is to run the social programme. Great emphasis is placed on students enjoying their time in Glasgow and making full use of every opportunity to socialise with a wide range of different nationalities. The summer social programme typically consists of three evening activities per week (for example: sports night, film night, story night) and a weekly whole-day excursion to such places of interest as Edinburgh, Ayr or Stirling or to popular tourist destinations such as Rothesay or Loch Lomond.

My class was hard, but the teacher talked to me and helped me with my listening. I can understand English a lot better. This is the most I have ever learned. I have had a wonderful experience.
