Students’ Union

At the centre of the University is the Union Society Building, the social hub and main focal point for students at Newcastle.
It is a great place for students to take a break from their studies, get involved in activities and meet new people. After recent renovations, the Union now has six bars and a diverse selection of food outlets, including the vegetarian MLK cafĂ© and the new Rijo’s Juice Bar. Students can enjoy quiz nights, comedy events, popular club nights and gigs by big names, as well as up-and-coming artists.

As well as being the social hub of the University, the Union also provides a number of key services. There is an excellent Student Advice Centre and the Job Shop, which helps students find part-time work. The Union shop stocks a wide range of stationery, snacks, drinks and newspapers, along with a great selection of practical household items. The Union Building also has a post office, print shop and travel agent. From Monday to Friday evenings, the Union runs a free student safety bus to take students from the University campus direct to their door.

Newcastle is a great city for entertainment.  There are lots of different bars and clubs, and I really enjoy going to live gigs of my favourite bands. Whilst the city provides lots of entertainment, the Students' Union at Newcastle University also put on a range of events.  One of my favourites is Brighton Beach.  With all this choice my friends and I are never short of places to socialise after we’ve been studying.
