Skills for life
As well as graduating with an internationally recognised degree, the University also strives to equip students with the necessary skills and experiences that will make them stand out from the crowd when they enter the employment market. Some of the degree programmes allow students to spend a year on industrial placement, and the University offers a range of additional opportunities and services that focus on developing those important ‘extra’ skills.
Through the award-winning careers service and Business Start-up support team, students not only receive practical guidance with their career development, but also access advice, information and resources to nurture their business ideas. As part of their degree, students can enrol on the Business Enterprise module or, outside of their studies, participate in the ‘Graduates into Business’ programme or regular Master classes delivered by experts from the region. ‘Students into Schools, Colleges, Community’ and ‘Student Community Action Newcastle (SCAN)’ both provide opportunities for students to make a difference to the local community whilst developing career skills, such as communication and teamwork.
