University library service

The University recognises the importance of continual investment in its teaching, learning and research services, many of which have won awards for excellence. The University has invested over £7.5 million upgrading teaching and learning facilities such as the Bedson Teaching Centre and the £2.2 million Research Beehive. The effect that this investment has had on the student experience was confirmed by the results of the National Student Survey, where feedback from our students placed Newcastle in the top eight institutions for the provision of learning resources, including the library and computing services. We also have a £160 million capital investment plan for improvements over the next few years.

Newcastle University is the only library in the UK to have been awarded the government’s coveted Charter Mark for excellent customer services four times in a row.
The Award recognises the high-quality learning environment available to all students. The University’s Library Service, which comprises the main Robinson Library, the Walton Library and the Law Library, provides students with an invaluable collection of resources to support them during their academic study. Some academic schools also hold specialised book collections, which supplement the University’s main resources.

Robinson Library
The main Robinson Library, which is situated in the centre of the campus, enables students to access over one million books, more than 15,000 electronic journals and an ever-growing number of electronic books. Students can also access a wide variety of resources online through the Library’s website. Study facilities include 200 networked computers, seating for over 2,000 people, photocopying facilities and a range of group study rooms. In addition to laptop docking stations, the Library building is also fully wireless network enabled.

The Robinson Library is a great place to improve our English. As well as academic materials they also have a wide range of newspapers and story book that we can take home to read in our own time.  That way whether we are at home or university, we can always be improving our English.
