Orientation programme

On arrival, a comprehensive orientation programme is provided to welcome new students and introduce them to studying at the INTO Centre and living in Newcastle. The orientation programme includes a formal academic induction where students will be registered for their programme, take an English language placement test, receive their timetable and, for academic programmes, select their modules.

Students will also be given a tour of the University campus including the Library, the Students’ Union (Union Society) and the Sports Centre, as well as an introduction to the city centre so that they can learn about the local transport systems and where to find the best (and cheapest!) places to shop. During orientation there are also daily organised social activities to help new students settle into life at the Centre and meet other students.

Newcastle is a great city for entertainment.  There are lots of different bars and clubs, and I really enjoy going to live gigs of my favourite bands. Whilst the city provides lots of entertainment, the Students' Union at Newcastle University also put on a range of events.  One of my favourites is Brighton Beach.  With all this choice my friends and I are never short of places to socialise after we’ve been studying.
