Teaching Methods

Teaching staff are sensitive to the fact that students who undertake their academic studies in English which may be their second (or even third) language.

All of the academic subject modules are taught using a lecture/tutorial process that mirrors the style of teaching that students will encounter in University programmes. Basic information will be delivered in lectures, while the student's understanding of the subject and their ability to utilise the information is supported by tutorial work and extensive e-learning.

Teaching methods will include lectures, seminar sessions, tutorials, group discussions, practical workshops, practical fieldwork, laboratory work, role-playing, student led presentations, team-working and writing exercises. Varied assessment methods include essays, field reports, field notebooks, critiques, creative writing, translation exercises, practical field exercises, group and individual research projects, portfolios, bibliographical searches, oral and video presentations (individually or in small groups), subject quizzes, assessment of seminar skills, class tests, and problem solving exercises.

I really enjoy the teaching balance between lectures and seminars. Seminars are particularly interesting because we debate issues and topics. This gives us an opportunity to express our opinion and  also think about what we are studying.
