A great night out!

Voted the No.1 thing to do in Britain (Rough Guide 2006), Newcastle’s vibrant nightlife continues to attract visitors from all over the world.

Bars and clubs
The city has lively bars and clubs, which popularise the city centre and other student areas within Jesmond and the Ouseburn Valley. Newcastle has an increasingly eclectic social scene as an international centre for the arts.

Music
There are plenty of live music venues throughout the city where international artists and up-and-coming bands perform.

Theatre and film
The recently refurbished Northern Stage on the University campus and the impressive Theatre Royal host some of the biggest theatre productions, with smaller venues, such as the Live Theatre, showing performances with a strong regional identity.

Film fans can catch the latest blockbusters at the Empire cinema in the Gate complex or, if you are looking for something different, the Tyneside Cinema offers a wide range of art house and foreign language films.

Food
The variety of food available in the region is as endless as the choice of venue. The city’s Chinatown offers Asian cuisine from China, Korea, Japan and Thailand, whilst throughout the city students can find Italian, Indian, Greek, Mexican, Spanish, Mongolian and Persian restaurants, plus numerous cafĂ©-style bars and sandwich shops.

Newcastle is a great city for entertainment.  There are lots of different bars and clubs, and I really enjoy going to live gigs of my favourite bands. Whilst the city provides lots of entertainment, the Students' Union at Newcastle University also put on a range of events.  One of my favourites is Brighton Beach.  With all this choice my friends and I are never short of places to socialise after we’ve been studying.
