Course outcomes

As part of the course, students will be given independent advice and guidance to support them in their university selection and with the process of applying for a postgraduate programme, both at Newcastle and at other institutions in the UK.

Assuming students have met the academic entry requirements for their chosen postgraduate degree programme, success on the Pre-Master’s English will equip students with the necessary language and study skills for direct entry to a postgraduate degree either at Newcastle University (without the need for another IELTS exam result) or another UK university.

The normal English language entry requirement for direct entry to degree programmes at Newcastle University is IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent). This requirement may vary depending on your academic subject. Students wishing to progress onto Newcastle University will need to achieve the minimum required by their academic school in the internal assessment test taken at the end of the programme (normally 65%). Students who do not achieve this level by June, but have a score equivalent to IELTS 6.0 (or 5.5 for the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering) will have the opportunity to progress onto the Pre-Sessional course and to continue their English language studies over the summer months.

The Robinson Library is a great place to improve our English. As well as academic materials they also have a wide range of newspapers and story book that we can take home to read in our own time.  That way whether we are at home or university, we can always be improving our English.
