Recommended study plan and progression route
Students who meet the programme’s academic entry requirements but who have an IELTS score of less than 5.5 (with 5.0 in writing) can undertake English language preparation at the Centre before starting the Graduate Diploma programme. Examples of these combined programmes are set out in the table.Graduate Diploma pathways
There are two main pathways through the Graduate Diploma, which offer assured progression onto a wide range of postgraduate taught programmes at Newcastle University.- Business and Social Sciences pathway
- Computing Science pathway
The programme is divided into three distinct sections comprising English language tuition, study and research skills, and academic subjectspecific content.
All students will study a combination of modules to a total value of 120 credits and will be advised which modules to follow during their induction. This will depend on their English language level, the subject area and the postgraduate degree programme they wish to study.Programme managers will provide advice on appropriate combinations of modules, given the students’ previous academic record, their English language level and future study plan.
Most students will take 40 credits of English (EAP). Exceptionally (e.g. high level of English on entry), some students may only take 20 credits of English and an additional 20 credits module to make up the total of 120 credits for the programme.
