What is the INTO Diploma programme?

The Diploma programme is a full-time academic programme, which is equivalent to studying the first year of an undergraduate degree. At INTO Newcastle University we offer a single Diploma pathway in Business.  Successful completion of the Diploma programme (subject to meeting specified progression grades in academic and English language modules) enables students to enter the second year of a relevant undergraduate degree at Newcastle University Business School, or to apply for entry to similar degrees at another UK university.

The Diploma programme will give students the opportunity to:
  • improve their language skills in preparation for undergraduate study
  • increase their knowledge of academic theory relating to the study of business and marketing to enable advanced entry to Year 2 of an undergraduate degree
  • develop the necessary study and research skills for undergraduate study

Who should apply for the INTO Diploma programme?

The Diploma in Business is suitable for international students who have completed A Levels, a recognised Foundation programme or for students who are already in the first year of a relevant undergraduate degree but do not meet the requirements for direct entry to Newcastle University Business School. Mature students with relevant experience and academically gifted high school graduates can also use the Diploma programme as a fast track into the second year of a UK undergraduate business degree. The January intake of the Diploma programme will also appeal to students who are unable to apply for the traditional September start date for University study.

When can I start the INTO Diploma programme?

Students can enrol on the Diploma programme in September and January each year, with both intakes feeding into the University’s September start date for undergraduate studies. For students starting their Diploma programme in September, the Diploma is a nine-month programme delivered across two academic semesters, which run from September to June. Students enrolled on the January Diploma will cover the same programme content as part of an intensive seven-month programme, and will complete their studies in August of the same year.

What is special about the INTO Diploma programme?

For students who do not meet the entrance requirements for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme at Newcastle University, the Diploma provides an opportunity to enter UK higher education without having to complete a Foundation programme.

The Diploma programme provides all students with:
  • full university status
  • a quality-assured university programme
  • a campus-based programme with access to world-class facilities
  • a conditional offer of a place on the second year of a relevant degree at Newcastle University
  • flexible entry dates
  • a highly supportive study environment to enable swift progression
  • the highest levels of personal care and support

Is the INTO Diploma programme validated or recognised?

Yes, the INTO Newcastle Diploma is validated and quality assured by Newcastle University and is a recognised qualification in the University’s Qualifications and Credit Framework. Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of a Certificate in Higher Education in line with the UK’s Framework for Higher Education and Qualifications (FHEQ). The Diploma is therefore a first step towards obtaining a recognised undergraduate qualification.

Newcastle is an ideal city for me.  After growing up in a large and noisy city at home I was keen to study somewhere that was quieter.  With beautiful parks and scenery with a variety of wildlife, one of which I walk through on my way to university, Newcastle is just what I was looking for.
