INTO English language courses

Newcastle University has been providing high-quality English language courses for international students for over 30 years. The INTO Centre at Newcastle University continues this tradition of providing carefully designed English language courses, taught by highly qualified and experienced staff, within a university environment. To enter any undergraduate or postgraduate degree course in the UK, international students must satisfy English language requirements. In our experience, the most successful students are those who take the time to improve their level of English language beyond standard entry requirements.

INTO Academic English

This course is suitable for students who want to improve their level of academic English to gain entry to either pre-university academic programmes offered by the INTO Centre, or a degree programme offered at Newcastle University. Courses are offered all year round with a variety of start dates.

INTO Pre-Master’s English

This course is suitable for students who are academically qualified for postgraduate degree study at a UK university and want to improve their English language level and prepare for their Master’s or other postgraduate degree programme at Newcastle University. Students can enrol on the Pre-Master’s English courses in September, January or April.

INTO Essential English

This course is suitable for students who want to improve their general English language proficiency for use in everyday situations. Our courses are suitable for students at a range of levels from Elementary to Advanced. This course provides excellent preparation for the Academic English course or one of the pre-university programmes offered by the INTO Centre. With a variety of start dates, students have the flexibility to begin this course throughout the year.

INTO Study Abroad with English

This flexible course is suitable for international students who want to experience life in a UK university and want to improve their English language skills before progressing onto studying specialist academic modules at Newcastle University. With start dates available throughout the year (September, January, April, June and August), students have the flexibility to customise their programme to suit their level of English, preferred duration of study and academic goals.

INTO Essential English Summer School

Summer School courses have been offered at Newcastle University for many years and are now well established and widely attended by students from a diverse range of countries and regions. The Summer School is designed to improve students’ general English language proficiency for use in everyday situations, and their confidence in social communication. Students can take advantage of the extensive University facilities and have the opportunity to experience local, regional and national culture through a programme of social and cultural activities. Our courses are suitable for students of all levels from elementary to advanced, with students grouped according to their language level.

INTO Pre-Sessional English

This course is designed for students who need to improve their ability in English and study skills before they start undergraduate or postgraduate studies in their own subject at Newcastle University. Pre-Sessional courses are 5 or 10 weeks in length and are offered in the summer period (June to September).
