The development of core skills in English is a key part of the course and includes the following:

  • reading
  • listening
  • speaking
  • vocabulary
  • grammar

Academic English and study skills

To prepare students for study within a UK university, students will also focus on gaining specific academic English and study skills, including:
  • academic listening and note taking
  • general essay and report writing
  • oral presentations
  • discussion of ideas with staff and other students
  • academic reading and critical analysis of text
  • summarising and interpreting
  • research and library skills
  • computer skills development
  • exam preparation.

Being a student here is great as we are encouraged to take part in extra activities.  I’ve joined the Newcastle University Rugby team, who have made me feel really welcome.  Representing my University in this sport has been a great honour for me.
