NCUK English language requirements

 

Pre-Master’s Programme: academic and English language entry requirements


September or January entrants must have successfully completed a bachelors degree or have an equivalent three-year diploma (or HND). April entrants must have a bachelors degree equivalent to a UK upper-second class honours standard. (See table below for details).

Route A (September start - three terms)


Undergraduate degree or good three-year diploma with relevant work experience. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent (with a minimum of 5.0 in writing
and reading).

Route B (January start - two terms)


Undergraduate degree or good three-year diploma with relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (with a minimum of 5.5 in reading
and 6.0 in writing).

Route C (April start - one term)


Good undergraduate degree from a recognised university. IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (with a minimum of 6.0 in reading and writing).

Students whose IELTS score is below 5.0 will be required to undertake the INTO Academic English programme prior to entry. Students who are otherwise well qualified but whose IELTS score is below 4.5 will be offered a place on the INTO Essential English programme.

Recommended study plan and progression routes

IELTS-2
Students who meet the course’s academic entry requirements but who need to improve their English language proficiency can undertake English language preparation before entering the NCUK Pre-Master’s Programme, for which they will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 for entry to Route A, 5.5 for entry to Route B and 6.0 for entry to Route C. Examples of these combined programmes are set out below.
