English language courses

To enter any undergraduate or postgraduate degree course in the UK, international students must satisfy English language requirements. The most successful students are those who take the time to raise their level of English language beyond standard entry requirements. Greater fluency in English means they can be more intuitive and efficient in class and course work. The University of Exeter has been providing English language training for international students for over 30 years. Experienced staff guide the students and enable them to progress effectively towards their future academic studies.

INTO Academic English
Students can choose the INTO Academic English course to raise their level of English language to gain entry to either pre-university academic programmes offered at the INTO Centre, or to undergraduate academic programmes offered at University of Exeter. Courses are offered all year round with a variety of start dates.

INTO Pre-Master’s English
Students who are academically qualified for postgraduate degree study at a British university can take these courses to improve their English language level and prepare for their Master’s or other postgraduate degree programme. Pre-Master’s English courses start in September, January or April. Students intending to study for a Graduate Diploma at the INTO Centre but whose level of English is not high enough to start immediately can also follow a course in Pre-Master’s English.

INTO Essential English
This course is designed to improve general English language proficiency for use in everyday situations. The course is suitable for students of all levels from elementary to advanced.

INTO Study Abroad with English
A flexible and intensive course for students who want to spend an extended period in a campus environment to develop their English language skills. Students who have a high enough level of English can combine their English language studies with attendance on undergraduate course modules in the University of Exeter.

INTO Academic and Essential English
Summer courses
These short courses combine English language study with the study of British culture. They provide an ideal opportunity for students wishing to spend some time in the summer improving their English language skills.

INTO Pre-Sessional English
These courses are designed for students who need to improve their ability in English and study skills before they start courses or research in their own subject at the University of Exeter. Pre-Sessional courses are 10 or 5 weeks in length starting in July and August.
